Learning Observed This term we have been developing a range of soccer skills including familiarisation with the ball, dribbling as well as short and long passes. Johnny is beginning to develop his skills during passing drills he developing his focus and accuracy of passing and is becoming more aware of surrounding players. He is working  on his dribbling ability and close ball control and is beginning to focus on quality and accuracy rather than speed. He is developing the skill to to look up as much as possible to gain awareness of other players. Johnny is enjoying collaborating in soccer drills and related games with his peers and is beginning to develop an awareness of what good sportsmanship means.

NZC Achievement Objective Practise movement skills and demonstrate the ability to link them in order to perform movement sequences. Develop and apply rules and practices in games and activities to promote fair, safe and culturally appropriate participation for all.

Next Learning Steps Shooting drills focusing on quality and accuracy when taking shots. Approaching the ball at an angle and keeping the foot firm throughout.

Mighty Maths

Learning Area:  iDevelop (Numeracy) NZC Achievement Objectives:   Level 1 Mathematics (Number Strategies) Know the forward and backward counting sequences of whole numbers to 100. Know groupings with five, within ten, and with ten.

Learning Observed

During iDevelop (Numeracy) Johnny has been working on number knowledge. Johnny has been exploring -teen and -ty numbers, numbers that are before and after and groupings within and with ten.  During these workshops he has been making connections between written numbers and numerals. Johnny demonstrated his capability by recognising the numbers 13 to 19 by the ending ‘teen’ and the naughty numbers 11 and 12.  He was also able to make the connection that as the numbers go up they become bigger when it was demonstrated on materials. Johnny participated and contributed in many workshops on number knowledge and showed his collaboration by sharing his ideas with other learners.

iDevelop (Reading)

Learner: Johnny  Learning Coach: Mrs Bachu      Date: 15/05/17 Learning Area: iDevelop (Reading)

Learning Observed In learning habitat four we have been working on our reading and comprehension strategies. Johnny is able access his prior knowledge and is beginning to make meaningful connections during reading. He is able to relate the story to his own personal experiences and is beginning to answer questions by rephrasing the questions in his answers. He is developing his confidence to answer in full sentences. Johnny is able to use pictorial cues to assist his in formulating ideas when answering questions and is beginning to gain an understanding of how to describe settings. He is beginning to develop an understanding of how to ask questions based on a shared text. Johnny is able to collaborate and participate in peer and class discussions relating to shared texts. He has enjoyed reading the “The Hole in the King's Sock” and “Number One”.

NZC Achievement Objective Listening, Reading, Viewing Develop an awareness of connections between oral, written and visual language. Uses prior knowledge to make sense of a range of texts. Uses processing and some comprehension strategies with some confidence.

Next Learning Steps Work on answering questions giving reasons for your answers. Extend your answers by using the word “because”. Continue to talk about your favourite part of the story.

iDevelop (Numeracy)

Learning Observed In numeracy we have been learning our number facts. Jonny is being to develop an understanding of number facts to ten. He is able to create number sentences of facts to ten independently. Johnny is beginning to develop counting on strategies and is able to demonstrate confidence when using  materials (cubes) as a visual aid. He is beginning to gain an understanding that addition can be done in any order.

NZC Achievement Objective Know groupings with five, within ten and with ten.

Next Learning Steps Continue to develop counting on strategies. Work on  accurate number formation to twenty. Continue to work on writing number sentences to ten independently.

iExperience (Physical Education)

Learner: Jonny Tran  Learning  Coach: Mrs Bachu Date: 2.03.17 Learning Area: iExperience

Learning Observed In physical education we have been focusing on throwing and catching skills using small and large balls. Jonny is beginning to develop overarm and underarm throwing techniques and is improving his hand eye coordination. He enjoys collaborating with his peers during games and activities and is also enjoying tennis lessons with Mr Marcell.

NZC Achievement Objective Students will develop a wide range of movement skills, using a variety of equipment and play environments.

Next Learning Steps Begin to take your arm way back so that momentum builds for the throw. Continue to step forwards with opposite foot towards target.

iDevelop (Literacy)

Learner: Jonny Tran Learning Coach: Mrs Bachu Date: 1.03.17 Learning Area: iDevelop

Learning Observed In learning Habitat 4 we have been curious about learning our sounds. Jonny is beginning to develop an understanding of phase two sounds. He is able to recognise and use some high frequency words in his written work. Jonny is beginning to develop his own ideas for writing and is able to write simple sentences. He is beginning to develop his confidence and concentration when contributing in class discussions. Keep trying your best Jonny!

NZC Achievement Objective Students will associate sounds with letter clusters as well as with individual letters.

Next Learning Steps Begin to use connectives such as "and" and "because" to extend ideas. Continue to develop phonetic knowledge to enhance written work.
